I am a potential buyer and will be paying cash for a home. I'm a retired Aussie expat and with my Singapore wife and family, will be coming to Penang to retire and settle down in 2009 on the MM2H (Malaysia My 2 Home Scheme) in Malaysia.
I am looking for a 3/4 bedroom apartment/Semi-D House, 1200 sq ft to 1500sq ft minimum, with balconies and sea views on a high floor close to the sea and beach areas if possible with parking spaces for 2 cars. The Condo/semi-D house can be freehold and constructed 5-10 years ago or even new. Twin apartments (side by side) will be okay as long as the joining wall can be removed to widen the lounge areas.
I have been looking into the property market recently, and though prices seem to have fallen considerably due to the poor sales of condos/semi-D houses, and because of the abundance of properties in Penang that have not been sold due to the economic crisis (this is the same case as for Singapore wheren prices for condos have fallen by 30%), I would like to negotiate the final price. My budget is from MR 300K to 500K. Thanks for any information and help which you can supply me with. I would be grateful if you could send me pics and floorplans.

What you get: a couple from Australia – she is 52 years of age and is a Dr at an Australian University. She is coming to work on exchange at USM. He is a 65 year old retired member of the public service in Australia (Justice Dept). We are extremely fastidious about cleanliness and your apartment would be treated with absolute respect. We guarantee you would get it back in the same condition you left it.
What we want: a furnished apartment with at least three bedrooms, two with aircon (we don’t share a room and our 35 year old daughter may visit). We would like reasonably good quality beds, and a comfortable couch. Wifi is also essential. The sort of condominium we would like would be upper end but not exorbitant. It would definitely have a pool. Ocean views would be highly regarded but not essential.
A note please, without wanting to insult anyone: please do not think that because we are Australian we have money to burn. We are on moderate salaries by Australian standards. We have also been coming to Malaysia for about thirty years on and off, and one of us has lived here. I am coming here on a professional exchange with a university – I don’t get paid any extra for this and I still need to maintain my house in Australia. Of course we want something nice to live in here in Penang, and we hope that somebody out there might offer a reasonable rent in exchange for having highly reliable tenants.
